For everyone who remembers what it was like to be young — when the whole world seemed to stretch out before you while you were stuck in your own backyard — this special FRONTLINE series tells the story of Chris and Cody: two boys growing up in a hard land, determined to beat the odds against them, and struggling with
who they are — and who they can become.
Over the next 3 nights PBS will be airing this series. I suggest you set those DVRs. Read more about it here.

I can’t recommend this film enough and thanks Jeff for bringing this up on your blog. David Sutherland did the landmark series “The Farmer’s Wife” back in ’99 about a struggling family farm and outside of “Harlan County USA” it was easily the best documentary I have ever seen.
While it will be stunning both visually and audibly, I think the emotional impact will be unreal. I’ve already gotten to see most of it, but not the final edit, and it’s worth every minute. For people unaccustomed to what Appalachian poverty looks like, minds will be blown.
