True Test of Faith

KIEV (Reuters) – A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal’s enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.”The man shouted ‘God will save me, if he exists’,lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions,” the official said.”A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery.

“The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an “animal island” protected by thick concrete blocks.

This was a moronic move. If the guy was actually a believer in God I wish he’d done some research in order to discover that, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Believing in God shouldn’t be intellectual suicide, or in this case, the end of common sense. I enjoy reading your blog, Jawk. Peace.

But is it not legitimate to beleive that if your god can stop the sun in its tracks, part the sea, cure disease, make the blind to see, that he too can prevent a lion from killing you? Perhaps he didn’t pray hard enough, or maybe god has a plan for his corpse.

If we’re speaking in terms of a Christ-follower, which I assume is the case as you’ve mentioned Biblical references, even Jesus said, “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” I just think there’s plenty of Biblical evidence to prove that God’s not going to save someone from doing something completely moronic if all they’re out to do is prove something. If you look at the context of God/Christ’s miracles, even as a non-believer, there’s no denying that all of them have been documented as having a legitimate reason for their taking place, they weren’t for kicks or for show. I just think the guy could have done some simple research and thought twice about it. “Christians” have a history of doing ignorant, pompous, and self-righteous things to say the least. For that I apologize.
