“stop poisoning our neighborhoods”

OAKLAND — Clad in dark suits and bow ties, a gang of vandals strolled into two Oakland corner liquor stores late Wednesday night and then unleashed a violent attack, terrorizing the clerks, smashing displays and coolers with iron pipes.
The brazen attacks were captured on videotape and thieves seemed not to care that their pictures were being recorded as they looked right into the cameras.
Oakland police have begun a search for the gang of 8-12 young men. But for one clerk, those terrifying moments will not soon be forgotten.
“They just jumped on me — started punching me,” the clerk told KTVU not wanting to give his identity.
“But when you come with baseball bats, and I don’t know if you got guns because you have your hands in your pockets… breaking our store apart… it took hard work, we are here 18 hours a day… working here to establish a business to feed our families, and they do this to us, it’s not fair.”
The clerk said his family was in the back room, waiting for him to close down the store so they could travel to a relative’s home for Thanksgiving. He said the violent attack has traumatized his children.
The attacks began around 11:30 a.m. with two stores targeted — one at 34th and Market and the other — San Pablo Liquor Market on 23rd and San Pablo Ave.
The men strolled into the stores, walked around a while and then turned on the clerks telling them to — “stop poisoning our neighborhoods.” Then the violence turned to the liquor bottles and cans stocked both on shelves and in the coolers.
There was no immediate estimate on damages and no serious injuries were reported.

oh, i wasn’t even thinking about militant straight-edgers, i just assumed that anybody wearing a bowtie into a liquor store in oakland must be with the nation of islam. it sounds like something up their alley.

sxe or nation of islam…either way it’s fucking ridiculous. direct action, or being the “voice of the voiceless” or whatever, might make you feel good for a minute, and it might sound cool to other people who support your cause, but ultimately it only hurts whatever cause you’re fighting for. direct action only illicits anger towards, not sympathy for, your cause.

  2. I love how much people read into the things I put in here.
Notice this was a story placed straight from the news…

    Fuck.

if you’re not looking for some type of reaction, then why post anything? why have an internet blog?

sure, you posted a story straight from the news, but why? there are hundreds of news stories written every single day, but you choose this particular piece to broadcast on your website. must be a reason.

of course i’m ready to bite. my ass is literally sitting at home during thanksgiving holiday feeding one child a bottle, while my other child is taking a nap…shit, my we’ll go to bed bath and beyond later…

you should explain your motives sir, lest you bind your audiences’ panties into wads.

  4. Maybe, kind Sir, I thought the story to be interesting.

I love how I get “I wonder why straight edge gets a bad rep….”
like this story has anything to do with straightedge other than it’s in a blog run by me.

I just thought it to be interesting enough on its own and that it didn’t need my take…
you know how I love posting stories on religous nut cakes, and that is what this is.

Open comments are really starting to bug my nuts…

    well you take the good
    you take the bad,
    you take them both
    and there you have,
    the facts of life
    the facts of life.

what else are you expecting? airing your neurosis on the internet is bound to prompt comments from your audience. and frankly, wouldn’t you be a little disappointed if noone bothered to offer feedback? kinda like throwing a party, and nobody shows up.

plus, isn’t “bugging your nuts” tantamount to a sporting event at this point? jawk tawlk has swept the nation dude.

  6. Whether or not this was a sXe attack, I think it’s kinda lame for people to attack a defenseless store clerk for selling a legal product rather than stroll into a nearby drug den where crack dealers are actually killing people. For some reason the word pussy comes to mind.

  8. OAKLAND (KRON) — Police say someone may have intentionally set a liquor store on fire — less than a week after the store was vandalized by a gang of men wearing business suits.

On the same day, Oakland Police said that they had identified six of the suspects involved in last week’s attack inside the New York Market, which they believe was committed by the same group of 10 to 11 men seen on surveillance video vandalizing another liquor store.

“We’ve identified several individuals responsible for the vandalism,” said Deputy Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan. “We’re currently seeking arrest warrants for them. The charges include terrorist threats, felony vandalism, conspiracy, and robbery.”

Police say it is too early to definitely link those suspects with Monday morning’s suspected arson.

Monday morning’s fire was reported at 1:19 a.m., according to an Oakland fire department dispatcher.

“It was contained fairly quickly, the crews put a quick hit on it but there was a lot of fire,” said Battalion Chief Lorenzo Frediani. “It appears to be arson. It’s under investigation.”

The blaze destroyed all of the store’s merchandise, and the building sustained significant damage, with heavy char inside, Frediani said. The fire started near the front of the building and along one of the aisles. The fire was contained at 1:32 a.m.

The store was one of the two hit by a group of vandals dressed in business suits who asked the owner why he was selling liquor to the community. At San Pablo Market and Liquor, security cameras captured the vandalism on video. In both cases, according to police, a group of men dressed in suits, some armed with what appeared to be metal pipes, trashed the store’s merchandise.

Their attire led to speculation that the men were with the Nation of Islam.

This weekend, a spokesperson for the Nation of Islam responded.

“That is not our way,” said Tony Mohammed. “We disagree, and we disapprove of that attitude and that act of vandalism. That should never take place.”

  9. we don’t care if some kids burn down an SUV dealership, or shatter the windows of a mcdonald’s with a slingshot, or blow up iceland’s whaling fleet. who gives a fuck if a rack of Coors or Alize was toppled? we laughed when i heard this, and we will laugh again next time.
